VELO ALLEGRO RACES
Velo Allegro holds an annual race, the Velo Allegro Criterium, usually on the first Sunday of August.
Before 2002, the race was held on a short, fast four-corner course adjacent to the U.S. Post Office facility off of Redondo Ave. and south of Willow St. in Long Beach. It was generally known as the Velo Allegro Post Office Criterium.
In 2002, the race moved from the post office course to a new location known to many SoCal cyclists as Hughes Park. The course is a flat 0.9 mile loop. There are three standard corners and one long-curve corver. The course is fast with excellent pavement. It's great for spectators and photography thanks to a lack of obstructions in the middle of the course. Spectators can view the entire race as it moves along the course.
In March 2007, Velo Allegro introduced a second race to its line-up. Held under CBR sanctioning, the Velo Allegro Criterium-CBR, is held on the same course as several other CBR series races in Dominguez Hills, CA.
Velo Allegro's reputation is well-built on its ability to put on a quality race for participants and spectators each year. Velo Allegro's sponsors come through with excellent primes and schwag while members ensure that the race is well controlled from set-up to clean-up. Check out a race flyer below.
