OC Plans 3 Year Closure of the Santa Ana River Bike Trail
05/29/09 - Orange County gov't plans to close the Santa Ana River bike trail (usually known as the Santa Ana River Trail, or SART for short) between Gypsum Cyn & Green River Golf Club from October 2009 to August 2012. This will cut off the main route for bike access between Orange and Riverside Counties for nearly 3 years. more »

Long Beach Bicycle Grand Prix Festival and Race
Bike Long Beach is the city's innovative plan to make Long Beach "the most cycling friendly urban city in the United States."
Two-day Event, April 3-4, 2009 includes:
Downtown Pro and Amateur men's and women's criterium road races
Attend the FREE charity screening of "Breaking Away" along with special guests pro cyclist Tony Cruz (BMC Racing) and actor/former pro cyclist/announce Eddy Van Guyse (who also had a role in the movie).
"Breaking Away" is an Academy Award ("Oscar") winning movie and is 8th on the AFI Greatest Sports Films Ever list.
Cruz will do a Q&A session and there will be giveaways. Guests are welcome to make a donation to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. There will be FREE BIKE VALET PARKING.

New Bike Event Racing Into Downtown Long Beach
The city will launch a 'Month of Wheels' with cycling competition and festival.
02/03/09 -- LONG BEACH -- An estimated 600 to 800 professional and amateur cyclists are expected to race through the heart of downtown this spring in the first Long Beach Grand Prix Bicycle Festival and Bicycle Race, organizers announced Tuesday.
The two-day event will take place April 3-4, with an all-day bike expo in the East Village and nearly eight hours of racing around Pine Avenue, the site of the event's start and finish line. more »
Dave Richardson Memorial Service
01/27/09 - Longtime VA member Dave Richardson passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 22, after battling colon cancer for several months.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 03, 3:00pm, at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church: 11600 Los Alamitos Blvd., Los Alamitos, CA, 90720, 562.493.2553. A celebration of Dave's life immediately follows at his house (approx. 1 mile): 13450 Fairfield Lane, 63-B, Seal Beach, CA 90740, 562.596.0032.
Velo Allegro will make a $100 donation to the LiveStrong Foundation in Dave's memory.
